Belly Dancing

Breathing Techniques

The fine art of belly dancing will only be taught at the beginner level. The techniques will slowly move body parts in circles and teach the flow involved. It will warm up your body and make you smile.

One thing we all have in common is that we must breathe. This class will work with you to teach patterned breathing for relaxation, stimulation or purely for health. Breathe deep and feel it down to your toes.

Capoeira

Hatha Yoga

A Brazilian Martial Art which incorporates dance, game, music, and fun. There are two main styles of capoeira that are clearly distinct. One is called Angola , which is characterized by slow; low play with particular attention to the rituals and tradition of capoeira, in particular the disguise as some type of dance. The other style is Regional (pronounced 'heh-jeeh-oh-nahl'), known for its fluid acrobatic play, where technique and strategy are the key points. Both styles are marked by the use of attacks and counter-attacks, and use groundwork extensively, as well as sweeps, kicks, and head butts.

Ha = Sun and Tha = Moon. Hatha yoga links pairs of opposites – physical postures and breath work. Hatha is the form of yoga known most widely in our Western world and many types of yoga fall under the umbrella of Hatha.
Benefits include
:

  • Strength, flexibility, balance
  • Poise, radiance, energy
  • Focus, clarity, concentration
  • Calm, relaxation, joy
  • Well-being, equanimity

Meditation/Visualization

Kripalu Yoga

Relaxation, stress relief, serenity-these are just a few of the positive side effects of meditation. Meditation is simply becoming aware of your breath. Sounds easy right? You will learn how to do exactly that and finally get the answer to the question you've been asking yourself "Am I doing it right?" Visualization is incorporated by using your imagination to picture a peaceful place in your mind.

Kripalu means “compassion, mercy, bringer of bliss”. We enjoy moving into stillness. Although alignment is important to the flow of energy, Kripalu is more concerned with “feeling” rather than “doing”. Each class will consist of a centering, breath work, core strengtheners, postures, relaxation and meditation. Some of your classes will flow. Others will focus creatively on the breakdown of particular postures.

Lunchtime 101's

Meditations

Brief, jam-packed educational classes to give you a taste of some of our wellness techniques. Meditation, Pilates, Yoga, and much more to come.

Throughout history meditation has been used to lower blood pressure and to open the mind to creativity. We will practice different kinds of meditation. Some will focus on reducing tension in the body and others will visually guide you to another place. All meditation will leave you with a relaxed peace of mind.

Pilates

Yoga

This is a slow movement mind – body technique. This will stretch the ligaments and joints, while it increases flexibility and lengthens the muscles. You will mentally focus on the muscles you are using bringing together your thoughts and actions together to integrate the body, mind and spirit.

Slow, intentional, gentle movement with specific breathing techniques. The Center will offer several types of yoga and we will update the site as we grow. Yoga every day is a great way of life.
