A NOTE FROM BARB
Learning to Love Yourself is the Best Way to Live Your Life
By Barb Tremlett
Self love is something that creates a feeling of pure love or self reflection which brings on self appreciation. What do you do on a regular basis or even on a daily basis that is just for yourself? A wonderful group of women were asked this question at a meeting recently. Their answers were beautiful. I have a cup of tea before the kids get up while it is quiet. I give long hugs to my children every morning and every night. I look into the mirror every morning while putting on my makeup and tell myself, "I love you and you are going to have a great day". I start my day with a cup of coffee and end my day with a glass of Chardonnay. I walk my puppy. I email my kids each morning and get to read their responses each night. I do Yoga. I spritz a little perfume on that I like. What do you do daily? Life is short, we all need to take time to enjoy it and remind those around us to enjoy it. We all have stresses in our lives that are very real, but that doesn't mean we are our stresses. We are people and we need to focus on appreciation, on things we like, the good things, the fun, the joy and the laughter. I challenge you to find a few minutes each day and do something JUST FOR YOU! I promise you, life will be sweeter and you will be glad you did! Really, I promise!

March Ladies Night Out Think Green!
St. Patrick's Day is a time to wear green and we also want you to Think Green. At just about that time we are pretty much done with winter and longing for the green grass and fresh air of spring. Green also means taking care of our planet. This month for Ladies Night Out we will be displaying a variety of "green" activities having to do with recycling, energy, and the environ-ment. We will also have a recycling workshop showing you how to make a reusable tote bag from all those plastic grocery bags!
The March Ladies Night Out will take place on March 5, 2008 from 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm. The 25-minute services available will be neck and back massage, foot reflexology, ionic foot bath, reiki, and Quantum Biofeedback. The price for admission, a service, the "green activities", two drink tickets, and a goodie bag is $40.00. Please call the HSC Center at 883-1490 or email us at info@thehsccenter.com to reserve your space for this special evening. |

USING YOUR HEALTH CARE SAVINGS ACCOUNT (HSA) HERE AT THE HSC CENTER
by Michelle Provencher, CNC
Did you know that 95% of the services here at the center are IRS coded and can be paid for with your flexible spending account (FSA) or your health care savings account (HSA)? Having a chronic neck condition, I frequently need to see our acupuncturist, Lucinda Fecteau for a few treatments (which by the way worked better than five cervical epidurals, 100's of trigger point injections, physical therapy, and cervical traction--but that's another story). I submitted my reciepts to my FSA coordinator and they mailed me a check! Does your or your spouse's employer offer enrollment in an HSA or FSA? If you do not know, ask your Human Resources coordinator to find out when open enrollment is. By signing up for this benefit, you can set pre-tax money aside for health care related expenses. If you have one of these accounts, remember the next time your back starts hurting and you would love a massage, go for it and use your FSA or HSA money to get you feeling your best! |
5 EASY WAYS TO GO GREEN
If you're newly green, you don't want to strain those developing muscles. Start with what's easy and move on to the more challenging green choices later. Here's a quick pick of 5 simple green steps to start with:
1. When you're at the ATM, don't print a receipt. If all Americans chose not to print their ATM receipts, we would save 2 billion feet of paper - that's enough to circle the Earth's equator 15 times.
2. If you're a Starbuck's junkie, spring for a travel mug. Unfortunately, Starbuck's cups are NOT recyclable so every cup you throw away can only be landfilled.
3. When you purchase paper products like spiral notebooks and even corporate letterhead and envelopes, choose recycled paper.
4. Buy power strips for your entertainment system and home office. Instead of leaving your computer and A/V equipment on standby mode, turn everything off at night. "Phantom" loads account for about 10 percent of your electricity bill each month. If your bill is an average of $200 each month, then switching this equipment off will save you $220 each year.
5. Say no to junk mail - By registering here for their Mail Preference Service, your name and address will be automatically removed from many lists, cutting your junk mail in half. |

FROM CLUTTER TO CLARITY Having clutter at home or at work is a personal challenge that can distract, overwhelm and sometimes disable the clutterer and those around him/her. A support group has been formed here at the HSC Center, led by Lisa Wesson that will help to empower those who clutter and help to improve the participants' health, energy, relationships and prosperity through releasing and organizing their stuff with more success.
Proven decluttering strategies will be explored, including techniques for the release of clutter, how to find safe sources of emotional support, stress reduction and guided imagery. Each month, participants will receive handouts and tip sheets to help create a better life. Participants will also fax or mail Lisa a monthly Focus Sheet to help stay on track between sessions.
Topics include, but are not limited to: Decluttering the Heart & Mind, Decluttering the Home, Decluttering the Office, Decluttering Medical Bills, Email & Coupons.
See the Upcoming Workshops section in this newsletter for class information. For additiional information please call the HSC Center at (603) 883-1490. |

Boost the Power of Your Tea With a Squeeze
By Kelley Herring
If you frequently enjoy a splash of citrus in your green tea, you're doing your body a favor. New research from Purdue University, published in the journal Molecular Nutrition and Food Research , shows that catechins - the primary antioxidants in green tea - are destroyed by digestion. In fact, less than 20 percent of these free-radical fighters remain by the time they've traversed your tract. But the researchers also found that citrus juice boosted catechin levels by more than five times. The most potent juice was lemon, causing 80 percent of the tea's catechins to remain, followed by orange, lime, and grapefruit. So don't let the healthy benefits of green tea go down the drain. Give it a squeeze of zesty lemon, sweet orange, fresh lime, or tangy grapefruit. You'll deliver pleasure to your senses and pack more potency into your cup.
