  • A Note from Barb

The end of the summer will soon be upon us. Did you breathe in the summer air or feel the warm breeze? Did you enjoy the smell of the green grass or the smell of the ocean? Did you see flowers or amazing birds? Did you complete your summer rituals? What about your family, did you spend time with them and did you enjoy the time with them? When is it too late to do all of those things?

Recently I had a family loss. It was the first time I had ever lost someone I loved so deeply. I was honored to do my younger brother’s eulogy. When I thought about what to say it came easily. I want to share with you a poem that I read to hundreds of people in a state of sadness and a state of celebration of his life. I read this every day to remind myself to always play full out.

    LIVE NOW
In the time of your life, live.
Take the chance, roll the dice, push your talent,
Love who you want to love, taste the wine, dance the dance.
If you’re knocked down, get back up.
Losing is nothing, for we all lose everything in the end.
But we never win all if we don’t enter the fray.
Before another day passes feel the breeze on your face, smell the grass and flowers, watch the birds fly, spend time with those you care about.
Don’t let time pass, look into the eyes of all those people you care about and tell them, enjoy life, love dance and play to your fullest.
Too soon the season will change, grab the opportunities in front of you.

Dance, Play A Game, And Get Fit All At The Same Time!

Have you been looking for a different kind of class that is fun like a game, is constantly moving to increase your cardiovascular fitness, increases your flexibility, sharpens your mind, and can be done whether you are age 6 or 60?

Well we have it here at The Holistic Self Care Center! Capoiera is a Brazilian martial art used to protect oneself during war. Without a substantial amount of weapons, ex-slaves realized they would have to defend themselves with their hands (and feet!). They created a style of self- defense that would stand against weapons and firearms. This style of fighting was called "Capoeira de Angola"; capoeiras were the name of the brushwoods where the fugitives entrenched themselves and it was believed that the first group of slaves who arrived in Brazil were from Angola.

In 1890 Capoeira was outlawed in Brazil. It remained outside of the law until in 1928, when Master Bimba (Manoel dos Reis Machado) founded what was known as "Luta Regional Baiana". A fusion of Capoeira Angola and batuque (street Capoeira) it was later called Capoeira Regional. During this time Capoeira became more than just a fight. It acheived national recognition and became what it is today: a dance, a sport, a game and an artistic expression of freedom.

So let's have some fun and get fit the Brazilian way! Call the center now to sign up for a Free introductory class on September 9th from 9:30 am - 11:00 am. Classes will run every Saturday at the same times.

    Nashua After-Hours Networking

After three-odd years of searching for full-time work, I have learned the importance of actively networking to maintain and develop professional contacts. Although I'm an Engineer, I've found that you never know who is that fine key person you need to meet. I therefore hope for a wide diversity of people to attend the events on a regular basis.

I have started Nashua After-Hours Networking, meeting the first Monday (exception: 9/11) and third Tuesday of the month, 6:30 pm-8:00 pm, at the Peddler's Daughter on Main Street.

My goal is to create a regular location where professionals in the area can come to meet, exchange contact information, and build relationships not only when in need, but as a routine part of any career. Not only will this help people in need of job-seeking contacts, but it will serve as a good venue for people to find local businesses and keep money in the area. And if it turns out to be a popular event, I will try to get HR personnel from local companies to attend as well.
