FRIENDS OF THE CENTER
As The Center grows so does the need for support. If you are interested in joining in with other dynamic volunteers to support all that we do please call. The Friends of The Center work to support the workload by donating their time in many ways such as; graphic design, building the company scrap book, writing articles, cleaning, public speaking, attending Chamber events, office support, painting pictures, folding laundry, research support, setup for events, cooking, delivery of or restocking brochures. We have avenues of volunteerism for everyone. Thank you for your support and we look forward to your helping hands.

Wouldn't you like to have more energy to get all those errands done, or a clear, stress-free mind to do all the planning? We challenge you to read on and pick at least one event or class to attend. You will thank yourself for being proactive and in turn more productive!

  • A LETTER FROM BARB
  • Barb Pic

I started my day by opening my eyes and knowing that I make a difference. We all do, we all make a difference. We all touch lives. We help other people heal by simplest things we do. When is the last time you sat and listened to someone that just wanted to be heard? Not judging, not advising, not giving comments, just simply listening? Do you remember a time when you were having a bad day and a friend placed a hand on your shoulder with a simply little squeeze or just a little pat on the back with no words? Have you ever been in a crowd and someone catches your eye and you simply smile and know that you have connected. You see in the smile in their eyes as they smile back. So I encourage you to take the time to make a simple difference. Listen, smile, or give a hand. Life is great and we all have the opportunity. When you wake up tomorrow, before you get out of bed make a commitment to try it throughout the day. It’s just that simple!

  • ACUPUNCTURE 101
  • FEDERAL VIEW OF ACUPUNCTURE FOR SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT The 2006 edition of the US government's clinical handbook on detoxification from alcohol and other drugs, published by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), states in part: "[Acupuncture] has been used as an adjunct to conventional treatment because it seems to reduce the craving for a variety of substances of abuse and appears to contribute to improved treatment retention rates. In particular, acupuncture has been viewed as an effective adjunct to treatment for alcohol and cocaine disorders and it also has played an important role in opioid treatment (i.e., methadone maintenance). It is used as an adjunct during maintenance, such as when tapering methadone doses." Acupuncture was also cited in a previous edition (1996) as an adjunct for use in clonidine detoxification. If you are interested in learning more about how acupuncture can help in the treatment of substance abuse or if you would like to schedule an appointment with Acupuncturist Lucinda M. Fecteau, MAOM, L.Ac., OT/L, call 603-231-2478 or visit the Center.

    TESTIMONIAL REGARDING ACUPUNCTURE

I am writing this testimony not knowing where to begin. I have suffered from migraines for the past 23 years, the last 5 being the worst. Triggers include heat, fluctuating hormones, stress, laughing too hard, altering my sleep schedule, and so on. I have since altered my lifestyle to try and reduce my exposure to my triggers as best I could, which anyone who suffers from migraines or any other illness can be difficult. As helpful as my neurologist was I am grateful to him for providing me with the meds I needed to regain my quality of life. I have since decided to choose a new direction in my care that I knew nothing about. ACUPUNCTURE...through the wonderful care of Lucinda Fecteau at the HSC Center. Through my experience with Acupuncture I am now migraine free! It's been a short time thus far with exhilarating results. I tried to sum up the feeling in a word, but I can't....That word hasn't been thought up yet... I would highly recommend going to see Lucinda and hopefully you have an experience beyond measure as I have had. Thanks Lucinda for your wonderful care and sweet, gentle spirit! It is a joy to know you and all you have taught me beyond acupuncture.... "We have the tools they are just in someone else's toolbox!" Little quote I learned from Lucinda. Lorraine Levesque 2006
