Omega 3 fatty acids are a form of polyunsaturated fats that the body derives from food. Eating foods high in saturated fats has been associated with the onset of degenerative diseases to include hearth disease and even cancer. Polyunsaturated fats (omega-1st) are actually good for you. As Americans we lack omega-3's in our diet because they are primarily found in wild cold water fish such as salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring and tuna. Farm raised fish do not contain omega-3's because they do not eat a certain algae which contains it. Omega-3's from fish include EPA and DHA which are rarely found in plant foods. The health benefits of omega-3's are enormous and growing daily. They include:

Ear coning is a technique that safely removes debris such as built up wax, flaky skin, bacteria, and parasites from the ear canal. Candling or coning is a painless procedure in which a cone shaped hollow candle is inserted into the ear canal. The candle is ignited on one end and as it burns it creates a vacuum effect that draws impurities upward from the ear canal. This can also benefit the sinuses and lymphatic system. Other modalities such as massage and acupuncture can also prove beneficial when used in conjunction with ear candling. Safety is assured by using flame-retardant materials to protect the person having the procedure. We now offer ear coning at the center, call now to book your appointment.
Tension reliever is good to relieve neck tension or to clear your head when you have too much on your mind. 1. Begin by rolling your neck very slowly. With your chin on your chest or close to it, roll your head up and to the right, slowly inhaling until your head is leaning back and your chin is pointed to the sky. (If you have neck or spine problems do not point your chin to the sky.) 2. Hold your breath for just a few seconds in this position. 3. As you roll your head down, slowly exhale until your chin is back on your chest. 4. Repeat, this time rolling your head to the left. By Jared Saunders
Reiki is one of the more widely known forms of energy healing. Energy Healing involves direct application of Chi for the purpose of strengthening the clients energy system (aura). Chi is the term used by the Chinese mystics and martial artists for the underlying force the Universe is made of. Mystics in all cultures have talked about the physical universe being made of an underlying form of something, much as modern physics research is now coming to understand the Universe is made of energy which is subject to (or affected by) thought. Just as modern physics says this energy is affected by thought the mystics also say this underlying form is affected by thought, going so far as to claim we create our own reality from our thinking and the thoughts we share between each of us every day. Stop and reflect for a moment. Imagine the implications of the universe around us made from energy which can be shaped and manipulated by thoughts. This is the implication of both Quantum Physics and ancient Metaphysics. Might this make some diseases easier to explain, especially those which have no apparent physical cause? Might this make miraculous cures easier to explain? For example there was research study done a couple years ago showing that prayer improves the health of those who are prayed for, the focus of intent in prayer sends thoughts out in the form of "I wish such-and-so to happen", so if the world is energy subject to the power of thought then prayers must work (depending on how clearly and carefully you hold and elaborate on the prayers or thoughts). Remember this while reading about Reiki. Reiki is very easily learned, very simple to use, and beneficial for all. It is one of many forms of healing through the use of the natural forces which were given the name Chi by ancient Chinese mystics. Some other forms of healing using Chi energy forces are Chi Gong, Pranic Healing, and Polarity Balancing. Since the word Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy, it (strictly speaking) refers to the energy and not the specific techniques taught by Reiki Masters. The techniques are more properly called the Usui System of Natural Healing after the founder of the system, Dr. Mikao Usui. However as Reiki is the common name. A Reiki healing is very simply performed. The practitioner places his or her hands upon the person to be healed with the intent for healing to occur, and then the energy begins flowing. The energy knows where to go, and what to do once it gets there. The energy manages its own flow to and within the recipient. It draws through the healer exactly that amount of energy which the recipient needs. All this happens without direct conscious intervention by the healer. The healers job is to get out of the way, to keep the healing space open, and to watch/listen for signs of what to do next. The session usually last between 10-30 minutes and is preformed fully clothed in a chair or on a table. By Chitra Rajyashree Just for today, do not worry. Just for today, do not anger. Honor your parents, teachers, and elders. Earn your living honestly. Show gratitude to everything. Dr. Mikao Usui
Are you living with conditions of pain and stiffness perhaps stemming from an accident or injury which have either occurred recently or as many as 30 years ago. This pain and stiffness still exists in the body because the nervous system chemically encodes the injury and trauma into the muscle tissue and there it remains. This creates muscle memory and each time a similar movement to the original injury occurs, the body remembers the movement and more of the muscle’s flexibility is taken over until eventually there is very little mobility left. There is an alternative to living with your pain and that is by receiving massage. I am Linda Demaine and as a Licensed Massage Therapist doing massage for eleven years, I have gained experience in releasing pain and injury from the body. Massage is effective in releasing the pain and tightness from injury in the muscle tissue, even if the injury is years old, because touch interrupts the nervous system’s firing mechanism. This short- circuits the pain messages being sent to the brain providing relief and relaxation to the body allowing healing to begin. Supportive holding during the massage allows the muscle or muscles to release the chronic pain and tightness it has been holding onto. Holding the affected muscle in two or more places at the same time, while counter straining the injured area, confuses the mind and it no longer knows where to focus its attention. This allows the muscle tension and pain to release. My hands actually feel the muscles softening to their natural state as the tension releases. Can massage work for you? Yes it can. Recipients of massage are the best proof that it works. After a session, clients report that the pain is diminished or no longer present, the muscles are looser, and there is greater mobility than before. So the next time you suffer aches or pains from old injuries or perhaps new ones, make an appointment for a massage here at The Holistic Self Care and experience the healing benefits of massage for yourself. Then you will be living proof that massage does indeed help in recovering from injury and that living in constant pain is not necessary. By Linda Demaine
